Wrapping Up The Weekend: Denver Series (Jan. 11-12, 2019)

This week, I've talked to several UNO fans and media folks who watched last weekend's UNO Hockey series with Denver and were impressed with the ways the Mavs played, despite coming out of the series with zero points.

However, close only counts in "horseshoes and hand grenades," so it's a moral victory for the team, which does nothing to help the Mavs in the conference standings.

On a positive note, a UNO player made the NCHC's Top 5 Plays of the Week (with Play #1!) for Week 13:

Senior defenseman Lucas Buchta's highlight reel-worthy blocked shot begins at the 1:35 mark of the video.

The NCHC also featured goaltender Evan Weninger this week in a NCHC.tv segment:

Poll Results:
The Mavs didn't crack the poll standings.

Looking Ahead to This Weekend:
Conference play continues for the Mavs as they return home to Baxter Arena to face North Dakota. The F'n Hawks are in fifth place in the NCHC, while the Mavs are in seventh place. But the series may be one of the team's best chances to get conference points, as NoDak is welcoming a new goalie this week and the Mavs may have some momentum from playing a tough Denver team close last weekend.
